
Dare Community Crime Line



Southern Shores Police Department:
is seeking your assistance in solving the following crimes:
(1) On the morning of Sunday September 9, 2007 at approximately 5:30 am, a house in the 100 block of Happy Indian Lane was vandalized. Two vehicles belonging to the victim and parked in the driveway of the residence had all four tires slashed and/or punctured with some type of flat edge cutting tool. Additionally, a large rock was thrown through a downstairs window of the residence causing a significant amount of damage. (2) On June 24, 2007 at approx 9:30 pm, a hit and run occurred at the intersection of East Dogwood Trail and Hickory Trail in Southern Shores. The suspect vehicle, described as black or red Ford Expedition, made a left turn from East Dogwood Trail onto Hickory Trail striking a bicyclist. The suspect vehicle did not stop and proceeded down Hickory Trail. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Subsequently, that same night, witnesses described seeing a dark colored SUV speeding east on Hickory Trail which turned abruptly onto Wax Myrtle Trail and ran off the road at 256 Wax Myrtle Trail. The suspect vehicle caused approximately $2000.00 worth of damage to shrubbery, trees and other landscaping at this location. The suspect vehicle then left the area.

(3) Breaking, Entering and Larceny @ 18 5th Avenue reported on 02/19/2007. A kitchen window was broken out to gain entry. A Toshiba TV, a Sony portable stereo, a Toshiba DVD player and a Sony VCR were removed from the residence.
(4) Breaking, Entering and Larceny @ 179 Happy Indian Court reported on 02/19/2007. Residence was under renovations. Homeowner’s property was packed into sealed boxes left in the residence. Items were stolen from these sealed boxes including two antique silver tea sets and several antique music boxes.
(5) Attempted Burglary @ 223 Duck Road reported on 02/15/2007. A white male subject, mid 20’s, 5’8” – 5’10”, approx. 150 lbs, medium build, light brown or dirty blond crew cut, wearing a yellow and orange sweater and a pair of construction style gloves attempted to gain entry through and outside door leading to the victim’s bedroom. The victim scared the suspect away. The suspect left in a pickup truck that was described as a mid 1990’s Ford F-150, possibly green with a silver strip.
(6) Breaking, Entering and Larceny @ 177 Ocean Boulevard reported on 02/28/2007. The residence at this location is being remodeled. Entry was apparently made through an unsecured door underneath the residence. A Rigid impact wrench, a Porter Cable air powered stapler and a Fluke electric voltage tester were taken.
(7) Breaking, Entering and Larceny @ 119 Clam Shell Trail reported on 02/10/2007. Suspect gained entry by breaking a window. A Compaq Presario laptop computer missing the letter “T” and five bottles of wine were taken from the residence
