Is seeking your assistance in solving the following crimes:

           


There have been several reports of cars being broken into and also of autos being stolen in the Roanoke Island area. These have occurred from the middle of June through today 08/08/08. Almost all of these vehicles were unlocked, and the keys were left somewhere in or on the stolen vehicles. Cash and loose change are being stolen from wallets in these vehicles and items of greater value are being left, with the exception of one case. In that case, a silver/gray in color .44 Smith & Wesson revolver with titanium silver frame and a loaded .44 mag speed loader were stolen. Information is needed on these cases. As a reminder, please remember to lock your vehicles, and don't leave your keys in your vehicle(s).

(1) The Sheriff’s office is working several incidents of larceny from motor vehicles on Burnside Rd. on Roanoke Island. These latest incidents occurred 7/22/08 during the evening. Other vehicle larcenies have also occurred through out the county where unlocked cars were searched for valuables. Almost all of the vehicles were left unlocked or the keys were left in them. Anyone having information about these car larcenies is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Line.

(2) During the night on 7/20/08 someone entered a vehicle on NC 12 in Hatteras. Stolen from that car was a Sony cam-corder, apple/Ipod , and the owners wallet and contents.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Line. The Sheriff’s Office again reminds everyone to LOCK unattended vehicles.

(3) On 5/2/08 a kiteboard and associated equipment was stolen from a residence on HW 12 in Avon. The board is a silver HD was taken from under the dwelling: value of stolen equipment is $2-3,000.00.

(4) Larceny of a pool pump was reported 5/3/08 from a storage shed on Colony Ct. in Salvo. The pump was a super hyward and valued at approx. $600.00.

(5) Breaking, Entering and Larceny of property valued at approximately $100,000 from a residence in the Oaks, Manteo on 10/21/07 .  Stolen: 4 pistols, (1) Ruger.22 magnum handgun, (1) High Standard target pistol, (1) Dan Wesson .22 revolver and (1) Colt New Frontier pistol, money, jewelry and assorted electronic games.

(6) Burglary of an unlocked residence in Waves on 7/24/07. Someone entered the residence at night and stole a suitcase with all the contents to include, Nintendo cd’s, I-pod, purse with contents, cell phone and charger.

 

 

NOTE: Recently throughout the county, several unlocked vehicles have had properly stolen from them. The Sheriff’s Office strongly suggests that vehicles be locked when left unattended.
